Michael Best Expands Privacy Practice

Michael Best is proud to share the addition of C. Samuel (Sam) Facey to the firm’s Privacy & Cybersecurity practice. Facey joins as Senior Counsel and is based in the Milwaukee office.

Facey brings a wealth of experience having served as Chief Privacy Officer for a global technology company. With tenure serving in in-house, government, and private practice roles, Facey has a unique blend of skills in global privacy and data security counseling and global investigations, with a focus in employment related issues. His contributions have been widely acknowledged, earning invitations to share insights on the legal challenges with implementing insider risk programs with Fortune 500 companies and esteemed institutions.

Before joining Michael Best, Facey served in several roles such as the Assistant General Counsel, Employment Law, Global Investigations Counsel, and Chief Privacy Officer at Rockwell Automation, a leading provider of industrial automation and digital transformation technologies. In his role as Chief Privacy Officer, Facey led the global data privacy program to ensure compliance with international privacy laws. This involved negotiating privacy terms in contracts, creating global training and education initiatives, and providing strategic counsel on vendor selection and deployment of new technologies. He also partnered with global HR teams to conduct data privacy and risk assessments to ensure proper management of employee data. Additionally, Facey led complex global investigations involving allegations of fraud, embezzlement, workplace misconduct, and unethical business practices.

Facey holds his Insider Threat Program Manager Certification from Carnegie Mellon University. He earned his J.D. from the Chicago-Kent College of Law at the Illinois Institute of Technology, and his B.S. from the University of Wisconsin.
