Best Practices in Management of an OSHA Inspection

OSHA inspections can be stressful and they are unannounced. OSHA Compliance Officers know what they are looking for, while the company managers do not. Imagine having the police pull you over and search your car. You may be confident you have nothing to hide, but it is still stressful. What if your teenager also drives that car with other kids on board? What is law enforcement going to find? You can only control what you know, and what others have done is not always brought to light. Many companies are confident they will do just fine in an OSHA inspection.  After all, they have a safety program and have addressed all known hazards. They may have even done audits. But they never look at OSHA’s playbooks for inspections.

This session is designed to make you think again, by showing you how OSHA looks at your plant. There are many “gotcha” scenarios in your facilities that you may have never thought about. The presenter(s) have over 30 years of experience handling OSHA inspections in nearly every state, but primarily in Wisconsin. Manufacturing managers will leave the session confident that they understand the structure of an inspection, the reasons why OSHA may inspect, and where they may lead. The presenters will outline the tools and techniques needed to manage an inspection from start to finish. The most important outcome of this program is that, when managers work on a plan for handling an OSHA inspection, the confidence they have in their safety plan gets tested, and that always leads to safety improvements.
