Before joining Michael Best Strategies, Matthew held the role of deputy chief of staff for Texas State Representative Travis Clardy (TX-11). In this capacity, he managed the Austin operations of the Texas Capitol office, prepared Representative Clardy for committee hearings and high-level meetings, and played a critical role in Clardy’s transition to president and CEO of the Texas Health Care Association. His work included monitoring legislative and regulatory proceedings, such as hearings of the House State Affairs Committee, Senate Business and Commerce Committee, and the Public Utility Commission of Texas (PUC).

Matthew’s experience extends to consumer advocacy and utility regulation, gained during his tenure as a government relations specialist at the Office of the Public Utility Counsel. In this role, he represented residential and small commercial consumers at the Texas Legislature, PUC, and the Electric Reliability Council of Texas, ensuring their voices were heard in key energy and utility discussions.

Experience

Earlier in his career, Matthew served as committee clerk for the Texas Senate Committee on Administration, where he facilitated legislative processes, supported high-priority bills such as SB 3 related to Texas' power grid, and ensured the weekly passage of the Senate’s local and uncontested calendar. His experience also includes policy analysis and lobbying at Texas Alliance for Life, where he successfully advanced legislation during multiple sessions of the Texas Legislature.
