Overview

Ryan focuses his practice on counseling clients regarding various complex litigation matters, including matters involving patents, trademarks, copyrights, trade secrets, trade dress, unfair competition, tortious interference, contracts, and shareholder disputes in a wide range of industries and technical fields in State and Federal courts across the country.

In particular, Ryan has expertise representing clients in patent litigation involving mechanical, electrical, and computer technologies. Ryan also has experience representing clients in copyright litigation involving engineering and environmental modeling software. Ryan has represented clients in courts across the country, including U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, and U.S. District Courts in California, Delaware, Illinois, Nevada, Texas, Wisconsin, and North Carolina, among others.

Ryan began his career with Michael Best as a summer associate and a law clerk, working with members of the litigation and intellectual property groups. Prior to joining Michael Best, Ryan worked as a student attorney for the Restorative Justice Project.

Experience

  • Represented automotive sensor manufacturer and technology company in patent litigation and jury trial. Obtained jury verdict awarding nearly $17 million in damages and finding willful infringement.
  • Represented seating technology and manufacturing company in patent infringement and trade dress infringement litigation and jury trial. Obtained jury verdict awarding more than $100 million in damages and finding willful infringement.
  • Represented clients enforcing and defending trademark rights, including before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board.
  • Represented health care clinic defending claim of copyright infringement.
