Overview

Sam is an associate in the firm’s Intellectual Property practice group.  He focuses his work on patent prosecution for a variety of technologies including building, manufacturing, and industrial automation, medical devices and systems, environmental controls, financial and data processing technologies, power systems, and automotive technologies.

In addition to drafting and prosecuting patents for multiple Fortune 500 companies, Sam also counsels clients on patent strategy and portfolio management and prepares patentability and clearance opinions. Additionally, he assists clients with licensing and other agreements, as well as trademark preparation and prosecution.

Sam’s training as an electrical and computer engineer, and his prior work experience as a patent engineer, an engineering team lead, and a project manager give him a deep understanding of his client’s technologies and many of the IP issues they face.

Before joining Michael Best, Sam served as in-house counsel for a Fortune 1000 manufacturer. Earlier in his law career, he was an associate with two large, full-service law firms. While in law school, Sam served as a judicial intern for the Honorable Rudolph Randa in the Eastern District of Wisconsin.
