Katie is an Associate who focuses her practice on patent matters including the preparation, filing, and prosecution of utility and design patent applications. She brings a technical background in biomedical engineering to bear on her work conducting patentability, right-to-use, validity, and patent clearance studies. She is also experienced with post-grant proceedings including inter partes review.
Katie has experience working with technologies in a variety of industries, including the medical, agricultural, mining, industrial, heating and cooling, furniture, 3D printing, and consumer products industries.
Before and during her time in law school, Katie gained experience working as a Patent Engineer at Michael Best. In 2015, she worked in-house for a client for three months on secondment. In this capacity, she worked closely with company engineers to assist them in the patent process and helped train an in-house patent engineer.
Prior to joining the firm, Katie participated in the Co-op Program at Marquette University, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in biomedical (mechanical) engineering. Under the auspices of the program, she worked in research and development at Cardiac Science, a global medical device manufacturer. While at Marquette, Katie was a member of both Tau Beta Pi Engineering Honor Society and Alpha Eta Mu Beta Biomedical Engineering Honor Society. During her tenure in law school, she was active in the Colorado Intellectual Property American Inn of Court.
