Overview

Lucas focuses his practice in the areas of intellectual property litigation, prosecution, and licensing. He specializes in digital technologies, including 3-D printing/additive manufacturing and software, as well as chemical and oil and gas technologies. He has considerable expertise regarding the delicate interplay between clients’ proprietary technologies and the law. A noted thought leader in his field, Lucas has written numerous articles and has been quoted in several highly respected publications. His latest book, 3D Printing and Intellectual Property Law, (Cambridge University Press) was published in 2019.

Lucas is a professor and the founder and director of the Intellectual Property Law Program at Campbell University’s Norman Adrian Wiggins School of Law. His teaching and research expertise extend to all areas of intellectual property law, contract law, UCC article 2 & 2a, the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, and the CISG. Earlier in his career, Lucas was an IP attorney with a major international law firm. After earning his law degree, Lucas clerked for the Honorable Kenneth M. Hoyt in the United States District Court for the Southern District of Texas.

In addition to his law practice and professorship, Lucas is also one of just 20 international members appointed to the Confidentiality Commission of the Conference of the States Parties for the Organisation for the Prevention of Chemical Weapons (The Hague, Netherlands).
