Serene concentrates her patent practice on prosecution, clearance, and validity opinions for mechanical, electrical, and medical technologies. She represents clients spanning a range of industries, including manufacturing, construction, mining, healthcare, and nuclear technology.
She has significant experience with products such as power tools, industrial equipment, medical devices, imaging technologies, office furniture, and chemical and nuclear systems, as well as control systems and other automated systems and processes.
Prior to joining Michael Best, Serene served as a law clerk for the Honorable Judge Kevin E. Martens on the Milwaukee County Circuit Court and as an extern for the Honorable Judge Charles Clevert of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Wisconsin. While in law school, she served as an Intellectual Property Assistant at the University of Wisconsin’s Center for Education Research and as a law clerk in the Office of General Counsel, where she provided legal advice to the Wisconsin State Universities and the Board of Regents. Through the University’s Law & Entrepreneurial Clinic, Serene counseled start-up companies on business and legal issues. Serene also worked for the Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation (WARF) where she developed graduate bioethics programs and intellectual property symposiums for the opening of the Wisconsin Institute of Discovery (WID).
